'Vanilla' was filmed on the lands of the Wurundjeri people and I wish to acknowledge them as Traditional Owners. I would also like to pay my respects to their Elders, past and present, and Aboriginal Elders of other communities.
Caroline and Marcus are a young couple struggling with the complexities of adult life, balancing dreams and expectations with bills, rent and car trouble.
Caroline copes with this struggle by visiting a tarot parlour. Marcus does not agree with this approach.
"As a producer, I look for films that inspire me to be an audience member. Theres no better feeling than watching a distinct and smart visual story unfold. The first time I read Vanilla, I was immediately engaged and those same feelings drew me into creating such a project with Callum.
Not only was the elaborate setting hilarious but the writing was so precise and indicative the final outcome would be special. Crafting a team around Callum was a joy and having worked with him in the past, I knew from the beginning it was going to be a lot of fun. Although the film has comedy elements, this absorbing vignette addresses the human complexities of a relationship reacting to different environments in light hearted but unbroken storytelling style."
